The Tasmania JackJumpers and Scott Roth are nearing a two-year contract extension, according to a Marc Stein report on Thursday.

The inaugural head coach of the JackJumpers is entering the final year of his current deal in NBL27, but had previously stated his eagerness to stay on beyond that should the opportunity arise.

Tasmania Chairman Steve Old spoke on SEN Tassie Breakfast last week about the club's intentions to lock away its championship-winning head coach.

"My understanding is that discussions are progressing really well," Old said.

"Our intention is to have Scott back, to be 100% honest with you.

"He's been magnificent for our basketball club and magnificent for Tasmania.

"From our perspective, we want to get Scott back, the club wants to get Scott back and the owner wants to get him back."
