NBL champion Damon Lowery says seven-time Brian Goorjian continues to defy his age, ahead of Friday’s Game 2 between Sydney and Adelaide.

The NBL’s greatest ever coach, Brian Goorjian, is now just two wins away from his record seventh championship.

Standing in the way of him and his Sydney Kings are the Adelaide 36ers, who will host Friday’s Game 2 on their home floor.

It's a remarkable achievement considering the 72-year-old last won an NBL title back in 2009 with the South Dragons.

But not in the eyes of NBL champion Damon Lowery, who believes the seven-time Coach of the Year is performing as well as he ever has.

“Brian is coaching with an unbelievable chip on his shoulder,” Lowery said on Thursday’s episode of NBL Now.

“He's letting everybody know age ain't nothing but a number.”

Also boding well for the Kings’ chances at recording their 14th straight win and moving to 2-0 in the Series is Kendric Davis, who will be keen to shine against his former home fans in Adelaide.

“Kendric Davis is so fired up, you think he's going to be complacent?” Lowery said.

“He's already been slighted [for the MVP award] in his mind twice. And it's his old team. There’s way too much to play for.

“We all know how rabid they [Adelaide fans] are. We know how they teeter on the edge of lunacy, but they are good supporters.

“You definitely want to play for a crowd like that. But to go after KD, I don't know if that's a wise thing to do. I don't think he's gonna be fazed by it.”

In the same vein, Lowery appreciates that if Adelaide is going to level the Series on Friday, they will need to ‘junk it up’ defensively and slow the league’s best offence.

“They've got to junk it right up, because just normal man-to-man defence will not be enough to get this done,” he said.

“[Further to that] Can they rough up Kendric [defensively]? You’ve got to do something to get the Kings off their game. They are feeling so good about life right now.

“If they come out and try to play the normal 36ers way, it's going to be over in three games.”
