Melbourne United's roster revamp has them set to bounce back in a big way, as the club attempts to bring home the Hungry Jack's NBL27 championship.

A big part of that roster revamp is signing five-time Olympian Joe Ingles, fresh off 12 years in the NBA. In a one-on-one interview with NBL Media's Pete Hooley, the Olympic bronze medalist explained in detail his decision to join United.

"It's not about the starting or how many minutes or the money," Ingles said.

"I wouldn't have come back if I didn't think I could help.

"I can walk away and be very happy, and I'm very lucky to be able to say that.

"The enjoyment's there, and the group they were trying to put together and build was special."

That build Ingles touches on includes recruiting Cole Anthony, Luke Travers, Josh Oduro, Sam Waardenburg and Sean Macdonald to a core that already featured the likes of Chris Goulding and Shea Ili.

"Obviously playing with Chris [Goulding] was a big part of it, and playing with Shea [Ili] was something I was really looking forward to if it happened," he said.

"Then Chancey's name popped up, Sam [Waardenburg] signs, and then you kind of go through the process and think we're going to be a pretty like a decent team.

"Then LT (Luke Travers) decides to come, which is obviously a big one.

"Finally, we got Josh [Oduro] and most recently Cole.

"It's an exciting group, and any team when you're involved in sport, you want as many good players as you can get.

"If you can get 12 to 15 of the best players, why wouldn't you do that? Then it's on Chancey to figure out the rest.

"We've got a really good, deep, versatile team, and as we learnt in that B.LEAGUE UNITED game, we're going to figure things out.

"So many guys can handle, so many guys rebound and push. Defensively, we can play so many different ways.

"For us, we've got four, five, six weeks, whatever it is, to keep figuring those things out.

"We'll obviously get our imports [soon], and they'll buy into what we're doing. It's just an exciting group."

Ingles and his United side open their NBL27 campaign on Saturday, September 19 against Adelaide at John Cain Arena.
