Worth his weight in Gould: CG brilliance shocks teammate

Chris Goulding’s return from injury has impressed even his coach and teammates, as the veteran star helps keep Melbourne United unbeaten to start the NBL season.
The whole NBL knows how good three-time NBL champion Chris Goulding is.
From seven All-NBL selections (three First Team and four Second Team) to being named the 2018 Grand Final MVP, the 36-year-old sharpshooter has achieved everything in the NBL.
So it should come as no surprise the amazing play the 2024 Tokyo Olympic Games bronze medallist can produce.
Yet, both his coach Dean Vickerman and import teammate Tyson Walker have been surprised by how quickly the sharpshooter has returned to top form, after missing the first few rounds of the 2025-26 Hungry Jack's NBL season with a quad injury.
"I'm a little surprised, like that's pretty amazing what he's done [these past few games]," Vickerman said in Sunday's post-game press conference.
"I hope he just continues to surprise me with things like that, it's fun."
Walker, who is averaging 13.4 points, 4.9 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game, admits to not appreciating exactly how good the 2014 NBL scoring champion is.
"[I knew he was good], but I'll be honest, I didn't know he was that good," the US point guard said.
"It's really good having him on the floor. He draws a lot of eyes, where a lot of lanes open up.
"You just know, if you run the right stuff, you can get him a good shot and it's probably going in."
United, who are 7-0 on the season, next travel to Cairns for a Round 6 clash on Friday, tipping off at 7.30pm AEDT, live on ESPN.
