"Boom, boom, gone": Goorjian shocked with ejection

Brian Goorjian was shocked to be ejected from Sunday's game, but was proud of how his Sydney Kings responded to win big.
He is an NBL coaching legend and Brian Goorjian was shocked to be ejected in the third quarter on Sunday, but was equally proud of his coaching staff and leaders at the Sydney Kings for still winning big.
Goorjian couldn’t believe what happened late in the third quarter of Sunday's game at Qudos Bank Arena when he jumped up and down, and then turned his back to the court, after disagreeing with a call against the Perth Wildcats.
He was quickly given a technical and when still trying to process that, received a second when the officials said he used an expletive.
His Kings team responded well with Andrew Bogut and Billy Tomlinson assuming the coaching duties, outscoring the Wildcats the rest of the way 25-11 for the 94-72 victory.
Goorjian can't remember being ejected across his illustrius career.
"Holding them to 72 and six in the fourth quarter, I enjoyed that on the television after I got to come in here, fire up the cigar and kick my feet up and watch that fourth, but I'm proud of the guys," Goorjian said.
"My thought on it was that 'wow, this is some to really watch, now'. I've been it in 40 years and I can't remember ever being tossed and very rarely a technical, but I got a technical last game for asking about a call.
"Then tonight and I'm not going to defend myself and you guys should watch it to see for yourselves, but I'm shocked.
"I've done a lot more than that and not gotten a technical, and usually as coaches we all know where to tread. If you've got one, it's like 'uh uh, I'm not going to go there'. But it was just like boom, boom and gone."
Goorjian said it was a tough pill to swallow, watching on from afar, but was proud of his team overcoming such a significant hurdle.
"Lindsay Gaze used to sit, but now for the whole 40 years I'm up and in, and do jump up and down, but to come out of the game like that and sitting here with my daughter who's trembling after the game was over, was really hard to swallow," he said.
"That was obvious watching that the staff when the leader's not there, they integrated and were totally comfortable with their roles and worked with each other.
"And then the voices of not only our three captains, but the growth in that culture piece from last year and having (Shaun) Bruce, having (Xavier) Cooks, having Delly (Matthew Dellavedova), was very apparent in that game."
