How Goorjian's speech "for the ages" ignited Kings

Brian Goorjian inspired the Sydney Kings with a stirring “military operation” speech that set the tone for their statement win over Adelaide.
Jaylin Galloway has revealed Brian Goorjian produced a speech “for the ages” ahead of the Sydney Kings’ must-win game against Adelaide on Saturday night.
The Kings shocked the 36ers in enemy territory with a dominant display, completely shutting down their star man Bryce Cotton in the process.
It was somewhat of a statement game for a team that had struggled to find their groove across the first three games.
It also coincided with Kendric Davis’ return to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre for the first time since his much publicised departure from the club.
“The energy in the room … you could just feel it lift as Goorj spoke,” Galloway told CODE Sports.
“It was a great speech. He told us we’re going to have KD’s back, no matter what happened.
“Goorj said we’re here by ourselves and we’ve got to stick together as a team. We wanted to go out there and stamp our identity.”
Goorjian spoke of approaching the game as a “military operation” during his post game media conference.
“Well, I just, my point being, I always think of my father. There was a great story where, when I was a little kid, I had a baseball hat on,” he explained.
“I wore it on backwards, and he came and slapped me across the mug ... grabbed the hat and he goes, ‘put it on your head perfectly straight.’
“‘And the only time, it’s military, the only time you touch it, a tip of your hat, is for respect, pride, tradition.
“When I get into games like this, I always think of my father, and I think of the military.
“One of the things I said to them (the Kings), you know, from the time we walk into this township (Adelaide), it’s a military operation.
"[From the moment] they arrived at the stadium, I knew they were [locked] in.
"Coming in here tonight and getting a win here goes down as one, not just this year, but and in the manner that we did it, one of the better wins that I've had in my time in the NBL."
Now with a split ledger at 2-2, the Kings face a massive challenge against Tasmania on Wednesday night in enemy territory, live on ESPN from 7.30pm AEDT.
