The Hungry Jack’s NBL27 Season presents a new era for Melbourne United, with long-time Head Coach Dean Vickerman departing after nine seasons at the helm.
As well as that, United will boast a revamped roster headlined by new recruit Joe Ingles, fresh off 12 years in the NBA, and Tall Blacks international Sam Waardenburg.
One constant, though, is three-time NBL champion Chris Goulding.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic medallist has been key with people like Vickerman in establishing United's recent success, but knows his club’s recent results haven’t been good enough.
“What we built over the last 10 years was great. We won championships but, to be completely honest, in the last couple of years, we haven’t been good enough. We haven’t won," Goulding told CODE Sports.
“I hold myself to a certain standard, and last year wasn’t up to my standard. Some people may have been happy with it, but not me.”
Goulding is confident his club can turn it around, especially once they hire a new coach, which he expects to be in the “next week or so”.
“We trust the front office fully to put the right person in the job,” Goulding said.
“It’s going to be new, yes, it’s going to be different, but in the pursuit of excellence and in the pursuit of trying to win, I think it’s the best thing for us.”
Goulding, Ingles and Waardenburg will be joined by Shea Ili, Fabijan Krslovic, Kyle Bowen and Dash Daniels as rostered players for NBL27.
