New Cairns recruit Jaylin Galloway has touched down in the Far North ahead of his first season with the Taipans.

This shift comes after six seasons and three championships in Sydney with the Kings. The 23-year-old, who had a brief stint in the NBA with Milwaukee, explained that because of that success, it wasn't an easy choice to agree to a mutual release with the Harbour City club.

"It was definitely tough," Galloway said during his introductory media call in Cairns.

"I'd been there for six years, [and won] three championships. It was definitely a second home to me, but I think I had to do what was best for me.

"At the end of the day it's a business, so I think this was the right decision."

Now that he's arrived in Cairns, the key member of the Kings' Hungry Jack's NBL26 championship team is excited to spread his wings.

"New team, new situation, I've heard some great things about Cairns, I'm definitely looking forward to it," he said.

As well as embracing a bigger role, two of the reasons he wanted to join the Taipans were reuniting with Adam Forde and older brother Kyrin Galloway.

"Fordey is my coach… he was my first professional coach, so that was a huge reason," he said.

"I also played with most of the guys on the team; they're my former teammates, and the main part was my brother and a bigger opportunity as well.

"[I'm] looking forward to it (playing with Kyrin), especially at this level.

"Hopefully I can help him improve his game, and he can help me improve mine."

Galloway will miss the start of the Taipans' season as he recovers from off-season surgery to his left shoulder.

Cairns open their NBL27 campaign against Galloway's former team Sydney on Sunday, September 20 at Afterpay Arena.
